The Niles Canyon Railway yard in Brightside, Ca. With it's panoply of engines, one can still feel what it was like to work with one of those horses.

An NCRY work train idling at the depot in Niles.

SP 1423 leads the regular Sunday train eastbound just barely out of the Niles depot. WP GP7 707 is on the other end as the train is about to enter Niles Canyon enroute to Sunol.

Except for maybe switching commute cars at 3rd and Townsend it is doubtful that SP 1423 did any passenger work in her career, but she did great and sounds excellent.

SP 1423 was nicely parked next to a Santa Fe caboose, symbolizing the ill-fated SPSF merger.

Retired by SP in 1986, Purchased by Parr Terminal Railroad, Richmond, CA and donated to the Niles Canyon Railway in 2000.
